Cantaloupe melons originate from Cantalupo in Sabina, north of Rome. Today, these deliciously aromatic sugar melons are mainly grown in Spain, Italy and France. They are naturally rich in vitamins, minerals and especially rich in antioxidants. We use the species Cucumis melo L.

What active ingredients does the cantaloupe melon contain?

In the late 1980s, research was conducted in France for several years to find out why this one melon species had a much longer shelf life compared to other cantaloupe types. The result: an especially high content of superoxide dismutase, an enzyme and super antioxidant which also plays an important role in the human body. It prevented the fruit from ageing – a phenomenon that science researched further and used it to develop a natural active ingredient extract that has a high content of superoxide dismutase with a positive effect in humans.


Where do the cantaloupe melons grow that are used for Ogaenics?

Our GMO-free organic cantaloupe melons are grown under controlled organic conditions on our supplier’s own land in the Provence region of southern France, south of Avignon. Instead of using harmful chemicals, practices such as composting, crop rotation and intercropping are used to control weeds and pests as well as providing valuable nutrients to the soil. No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides are used. The melon fruit has to withstand extreme sunlight and at the same time manage a strong, cold wind, the “mistral”. The fruits grow on exceptionally fertile, moist soils. This is where they form their typical, very high content of superoxide dismutase. The organic melons are harvested by hand from July to September when they are at their peak of ripeness.

How is the Ogaenics organic melon extract being made?

We use the concentrate of the juice of this unique melon species together with all their powerful bioactive molecules. First the pulp is carefully separated from the peel and melon seeds and then crushed. Then the precious melon juice is obtained and highly concentrated by using a centrifuge. Afterwards, the precious enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) is being microencapsulated to preserve its full power. The advantage of this method is that the acid-sensitive enzyme SOD is not destroyed by stomach acid when taken orally and can develop its full effect.

For the Well-being products of Ogaenics we use it as Extramel® in organic quality, which has proven its positive effect on well-being, e.g. in case of stress in various studies.
