The lichen species Cladonia rangiferina belongs to the soil lichens. These inconspicuous plants contain the extraordinary power of an ancient, highly developed symbiosis. The duo of lichen fungus and green algae survives in the most extreme environmental conditions.
What active ingredients do lichens contain?
This type of lichen is the only purely vegan, plant-based source of vitamin D3 supply (until now, it was only possible to produce the less effective vitamin D2 from plant sources).
Where do the lichens used for Ogaenics grow?
Our lichens grow wild in the Western Ghats, a mountain range in western India that runs along the edge of the Deccan Plateau, separating it from the narrow strip of the coastal plain and the Arabian Sea. They are hand-harvested there.
How is the Ogaenics lichen extract produced?
The wild-harvested lichens are enzymatically digested after coconut juice hydrolysis and then centrifuged to separate the pre-vitamin D complex with other co-nutrients.
The liquid raw material is spray dried and hydroxylated before it is then vacuum dried and sieved to be a food standardized for vitamin D3.
